Building Science 2
The impacts and effects of lighting and acoustic within a building is observed in this module to assess the comfort levels of a space. Understanding of the basic requirements of lighting and acoustics is conducted through site visit of a selected case study, using tools such as a lux meter and sound pressure level meter. Usage of different lightings and insulation are understood as important manipulative factors of the atmosphere within and around a building.
Project 1: Lighting & Acoustic Performance Evaluation and Design
This group project was conducted in VCR Cafe, a 2 storey shophouse style cafe in Kuala Lumpur. Upon observation and analysis of the spaces using the devices - lux meter and sound pressure level meter, a report is written as a group. The sound and light contour diagram were generated using Ecotect software for an accurate analysis of the the light and sound properties of the cafe. Below is a sample report and presentation board.

Project 2: Integration With Design Studio 5
An analysis of the lighting and acoustic around Chow Kit was conducted in order to obtain information regarding the light and sound approach in the design of the urban in-fill market from Studio 5. Strategies were proposed to promote optimum comfort within the building in terms of lighting and acoustic. It also serves as solution towards the possibility of issues related to glare and noise as the site is located in the hectic Chow Kit area facing the main junction. This pratice helps to inform of possible issues when designing and serves as an exercise for problem solving related to light and noise problems.
