Design Studio 4
This studio aims to apply sustainability to designing spaces for large public communities. Consideration is given towards the functionality and accessibility of the design and how it interacts with the context and users. Qualities such as the materiality and poetry of space and structure are also important aspects which come together to create an architecture complex.
Project 1: Green Info-shelter: Exploring the Environment Poetics
The project is to design and propose an info-shelter which serves to provide information on on-going events in the Center of Arts and Design CODA in campus. It also allows students to get shelter while waiting for pick-up. Site analysis is conducted to understand the site and context, while we focus on the elements that are prominent on site and for our design. Ideas of sustainability were included where climate aspects such as wind direction, sunpath, rainfall and temperature were taken into consideration to provide a shelter that functions with various climatic discomforts. Exploration of materials was conducted where we analysed the practical usage of rattan as a local resource and also as a versatile material.

Project 2: Nature Appreciation Center
[Proposal]
Following project is a proposal for the final project, which is to design a Nature Appreciation Center located in Belum Rainforest Resort. When designing in a natural site, an understanding is developed where environmental sustainability in architecture design becomes an important requirement adhering to the concept of a NAC. Environmental needs were given into consideration by designing in accordance with the site context extracted from conducting site analysis as a class. The presentation can be found in the following button.
Spatial poetics inspired by the site and contour movement were addopted to create a comprehensive user experience throughout the NAC. While the building needs to appeal through design, basic requirements toserve the function and program has to come first, for which to include info spaces, learning center, communal hall and refreshment area. Given that the design is for the public, accessibility for the disabled is also highlighted where ramps and wheelchair lifts are included in the building. The clustered spatial typology is then conveyed in manual boards and model.
