Design Studio 5

In semester 5, the focus of studio is placed on urban context, where we are required to design by addressing urban issues around a selected site. In this module, the visualization of the urbanscape is broken down and expressed in accordance to Kevin Lynch's "The City Image & Its Elements".

 

The project started off with site analysis, where about 4 days we spent in the happening district in Kuala Lumpur known as Chow Kit. The 2.8k sqm site was an infill in a row of shoplots, strategically located around the bend which positions the site as a major landmark at the main junction of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

 

The given programme for the urban in-fill site is a market. This project was informed that social issues are not taken into account and only based on urban issues around the site such as cleanliness, security and visibility.
