Learning unique and conventional construction material and techniques is the focus of this module. Latest technology applied in the construction industry should be informed and understood as they may prove to be useful when innovating designs for the future. Building technology explains how a wide variety of materials and techniques can be applied to enhance the flexibility of construction, achieving higher efficiency and quality in the building industry.

Project 1: Alternative Construction Solution

The project requires a new proposal of materials and construction techniques for the Nature Appreciation Centre designed in Studio 4. Ommiting the site context and understanding of the local culture, the centre is to be modified into an office building with a basement carpark. The main elements modified includes the wall, floor and roof.

Project 2: Industrialised Building System

This project studies the IBS system such as how it is applied and methods of construction. Our case study is the Troika, Kuala Lumpur designed by Fosters + Partners, where IBS is applied in its construction of shear walls to withstand the buildings load and strengthens agains possible forces such as torsion.

A model of an apartment which utilises IBS is constructed in accordance to the actual steps and approach when using the system, it is a simple demonstration of the application of IBS system.
